it's sorta like a big neighborhood-warming party

cider

We moved into our home a little more than five years ago. It being a new development, there wasn't a tree in sight - a barren wasteland of sorts. It was very windy and cold that first Halloween, which made it the perfect opportunity to get to know the neighbors. In addition to passing out candy to the children, we offered hot cider to the parents. The grownups were a little skeptical at first... it seemed there was some "parent code" that required they wait at the end of the driveway. By the second or third year, we moved it into the garage and offered not only hot cider and coffee but an array of baked goods as well.

It's been fun getting to know neighbors outside of our little circle and I love that some stay and visit a bit before moving on to the rest of their route. I may see them only once a year but it's a connection I would not have had otherwise. Here are a few more pics from the day:

The "egg hugging the banana" picture I'd mentioned on Facebook. Think that's cute? Wait... there's more:

"Breakfast" (egg/sunny-side up, bacon, and banana). The "yolk" is baby #2! Seriously, their family costumes are one of the things I most look forward to each year. We had an UNBELIEVABLE turnout and for the first time ever - ran out of candy!!!! We'd planned for 150 kids (twenty-five more than last year with TONS of leftovers) and still came up short. Amazing.

Well, I just ate up my extra Daylight Savings hour. (Ouch.) Better hit the hay. Have a super evening!
