I haven't posted since Friday, really? If you've been following my Tweets you'll have some idea about what's been happening in my world. It was a fun weekend with the Faithbooking Crop on Saturday and hanging out at the pool on Sunday. Yesterday the boys had a playdate together with some friends and I worked on photo edits.As most of you know, my 8-year old has been struggling with his tonsils since April. While he has a few infections each winter, things usually return to normal by spring. Not this year. After completing the last course of antibiotics, we had a brief bit of relief before the Obstructive Sleep Apnea returned. (His tonsils have looks like THIS the entire time.)
The ENT doctor said it was time for the tonsils to come out and surgery was scheduled for next week.
Over the past few days, new symptoms have emerged - he's been extremely tired (which we'd attributed to the sleep apnea), there's been a cough, and his appetite is down. At bedtime last night, he was complaining of feeling hot when I checked his temperature (which by the way, was normal) I noticed that the lymph nodes in both armpits were swollen (each looked like a 1-inch bump).
So, needless to say, we're making a trip back to the doctor today. Hopefully, we'll have some clear answers (perhaps Mononucleosis?) - I'll keep you posted.

Just returned from the clinic. "Watch and wait" is where we are at. The did a strep test & blood count and both were normal. The doctor thinks it's just a virus (CMV or EBV) but she didn't do any testing to be sure. (She said they wouldn't treat him any differently even with the test.) He'll go back in next Tuesday for his pre-op appointment. She said even with mono, he could still have the surgery.
I'm thankful his blood count was normal but it still feels a little like unfinished business to me.
Um...ok. Frustrating. So, any advice to keep him lying low and avoiding activities where he could be jabbed in the spleen? Lots of fluids and rest?

Did she include a monospot/EBV antibody test?
She said it wasn't "worth the expense" of testing at this point because he wouldn't be treated any differently if we found out for sure it was mono. She said if things persist or get worse then we'll pursue further testing. She also told me it could be a while before the lymph nodes go back to normal.
I just have such a hard time with all of this waiting business.
