Another kind of "December Daily"

The boys were so excited to receive Advent calendars from their auntie on Thanksgiving. After days of patient waiting, both tore into "December 1st" to unearth the treat inside.

"They're awfully small." (I don't know what they expected to find behind such a little door... a full-size Hershey bar?)

Just wait until Christmas.

The hubby and I have already prepared ourselves for a repeat of Christmas 2006. That's when the boys learned you don't get everything you ask for at Christmas (actually, they didn't get anything they'd asked for... not that we didn't try).

These kinds of situations make great teachable moments. I used these real-life experiences, for example, to show our children how to "roll with it" when things don't go their way and to help them develop an attitude of gratitude.

After all, sometimes all we have are the small nuggets!

We do not remember days, we remember moments. ~Cesare Pavese
