the un-surprise party

My friend Amy just turned 30! In honor of this momentous occasion, her mom planned a day full of surprises. Amy's family owns McHatties Victorian Times and she was scheduled to "work" the party. Her mom (Roxanne) planned to include Amy in her own party preparations, leading her to believe the reservation was for some unknown patron. She'd planned to send Amy off to a 1-1/2 hour massage and in the meantime, friends and family would gather at McHatties. Amy would return from the morning of pampering to a gigantic "SURPRISE!"

So what happened? Amy's daughter was up all night with a fever so she called in sick!! Needless to say, it left Roxanne scrambling. It all worked out, despite the fact that she had to tell Amy about the surprise.

There were so many lovely parts to the day... if you look closely, you'll notice a pink rose on top of every place setting. We were to each present a rose to Amy - at the same time sharing something special about her. There were so many beautiful words spoken! How often do we tell our loved ones how important they are to us? How often do we share why? What a gift we could all give our loved ones.

I'm going to take time tomorrow to journal in *great detail* about the day, particularly what I remember each person saying. They were words to treasure.

HAPPY 30TH BIRTHDAY AMY! It really was all true.
